What is Platinum Metal?
Platinum is a chemical element with the chemical symbol Pt and an atomic number of 78. It is a dense, malleable, ductile, highly unreactive, precious, gray-white transition metal. Its name is derived from the Spanish term platina, which is literally translated into “little silver”. Platinum is an extremely rare metal, occurring at a concentration of only 0.005 ppm in the Earth’s crust. It is sometimes mistaken for silver (Ag).
